Because of the pandemic, most or all of us are walking in unfamiliar, scary territory. None of us has perfect mental health. Social distancing can exacerbate our fears and make it difficult to focus on other things. I’ve gotten many emails from various organizations with two or three generic suggestions about how we can make it through this tough time. I’ve seen the phrase “stay positive” in almost all of them. What I haven’t seen is more than one or two practical suggestions of activities & ways I can self-soothe when fear makes me feel as though my back’s against the wall. Maybe there are lots of those emails out there, but I’m just not on their contact lists. The following is an attempt to help others. Here's my suggestion: Make a list of at least 10 activities that will help you self-soothe when you are feeling distressed. To help you get started, here’s mine:
